Kruger Park!!

On wednesday i arrived in Hazyview, a town just outside Kruger National Park. Staying in a backpackers and went on a full day Safari!!! We were picked up at 6am and got into the park at 7am. We went in a big open vehicle, like what you see on tv! So exciting! I saw giraffe, elephants, wildebeast, zebra, a pack of white rhino's, impala, kudo, a leopard (which is quite rare), monkeys, baboons, wildpigs (like Pumba from Lion King!), hippos and heaps of birds. There have been heaps of fires so alot of the park is burnt which is such a shame. I didnt get to see a lion or buffalo which i was very disappointed about but tomorrow i am going on an early morning and then sunset/night drive so hopefully will see them then!
Today i am going on a 2hour quadbiking ride through the forests and then tonight attending the Shangana evening festival. It is an traditional African performance and feast. It is all flame-lit in the chiefs village where the history of the Shangaans is presented through dance and singing, then we have dinner in the huts! I am really looking forward to it. Should be an amazing cultural experience!
I miss everyone (all my kiddies and friends) back at jane Furse but will return on Sunday. Not as much as i miss everyone in Australia!
Lots of love from Africa xoxoxoxoxox

Hi Carly!!

I have just finished reading your blogs. It all sounds absolutely amazing! I applaud you on being so pro-active and passionate and having the personality and intelligence to get your self to the places you want to be in life.

From what I have read, it seems that things here seem somewhat trivial, what you have the privilege of witnessing and being involved in is more than what most people can even dream of.

I have so much respect for you and everything you are doing. It's incredible, an experience that will stay with you forever.

When you come back to Australia, please bring a bit of Africa and your passion, drive, empathy and humility with you.

Now that I have finished my D&M rant(haha), stay happy and safe!

From Rebecca (Your cousin James' better half!!)

As a very proud dad I am amazed at how well you have taken to South Africa...not that I doubted that you wouldn't. It sounds like parts of SA have taken to you too. All the family in lennox are jealous of what you have achieved and experienced in such a short time. we constantly think of you and realise you are fulfilling your ambitions you have had for a long time. i get the feeling that there will be some very sad young kids over there that will not look forward to you having to leave at the end of the year.
Continue to stay safe and healthy on your unbelievable journey.

Hi Carls, Wow!! So envious. I have just printed off all your comments and will post them to Grandma & KB. Can just imagine the Safari!! Keep up the great work with the school kids. How about class sizes!!We are just getting all new furniture in our classrooms through Govt funding, wish we were able to get our old unwanted desks to SA. Hope you are well - enjoy!!

Carly,

It is wonderful to hear that you are loving your time in SA. Just think, this time last year, the thought of going on safari was lost in the mire of HSC. Puts it all ino perspective doesn't it! We are so pleased that you are acting on your ideals and reaping the rewards of it. Stay safe. Love Mr and Mrs H and Abbey.
